You Pray in Your Distress

You Pray in Your Distress

Dear Wisdom,

Please help us to understand the words about prayer in Kahlil Gibran’s masterpiece, THE PROPHET:

“You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fullness of your joy and in your days of abundance. For what is prayer but the expansion of yourself into the living ether? And if it is for your comfort to pour your darkness into space, it is also for your delight to pour forth the dawning of your heart. And if you cannot but weep when your soul summons you to prayer, she should spur you again and yet again, through weeping, until you shall come laughing. When you pray you rise to meet in the air those who are praying at that very hour, and whom save in prayer you may not meet. Therefore, let your visit to that temple invisible be for naught but ecstasy and sweet communion… God listens not to your words save when He Himself utters them through your lips. And I cannot teach you the prayer of the seas and the forests and the mountains. But you who are born of the mountains and the forests and the seas can find their prayer in your heart, and if you but listen in the stillness of the night you shall hear them saying in silence, “Our God, who are our winged self, it is thy will in us that willeth.” Page 67

Please teach us the significance of prayer. Jesus taught the Our Father. Jews memorize thousands of lines in the Torah to become fluent in their prayer. How can we turn our life into a prayer worthy of the gift of life and the Giver of Life? Thank YOU!

Answer

Prayer is communion with the soul.

When people pray, they usually are asking for help.

Something in their life is not working.

They usually feel alone and are weighted down by a burden.

The state of mind is in turmoil and they spend their time in worry.

God might answer yes or no, whichever way it will be a sign of God’s love for them.

If the answer is no, it is a sign of rejection from God.

If yes, God loves them.

This is an error in thinking.

God loves all unconditionally.

If you have a lover, you want to share all of life with them, not just the bad times.

The smallest details are shared making them more important.

Life is savored when shared with a loved one.

The morning starts off with a sense of joy because you wake up with the most important One that can share your feelings.

God is the greatest lover of life.

One can wake up with the Divine Lord as their first conscious thought and feel the love, for this Lover never criticizes or wants you to be someone else.

*When one wants to share their whole life with God, and not just the sad times, life can be lived to the fullest.

All of life is to be shared with God.

When one chooses to live at this level of connection, they are joined through the energy of all life.

You never feel alone at this level.

*God’s place in your life is to be your number one Lover.

Most don’t even give God a place on their dance card.

Thank you so much, Wisdom, with love.

You are welcome, our little “songbird”.

A Songbird’s nature is to sing.

Be a songbird for God.

Let the melody call your Lover continuously.

No matter how you are feeling, for the Divine Lord sings along no matter the mood.

Sometimes God is the only one singing but you can jump in anytime for don’t you realize this song goes on for eternity.
