Words About Death

Dear Wisdom,

Please help us to understand the words about death in Kahlil Gibran’s masterpiece, The Prophet:

“You would know the secret of death. But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life? The owl whose night bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light. If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life. For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one… Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the King who’s hand is to be laid upon him in honor. Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the King? Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling? For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?” p. 80

Do these words do justice in explaining the greatest mystery of them all? Death. Please give us a human understanding of this great transition we call death. Thank YOU!

Answer

Most people fear death.

Some start worrying about the thought of death around age 40.

It is the unknown that cannot be avoided.

Thinking of no longer existing can be terrifying if one has not planned for a pleasant outcome.

If man thinks about dying, why not expect death to be better than life?

*Souls come to earth to experience God through the intensity of the human senses.

Though there can be intense pleasure as a human, life on earth is of contrast.

Therefore, there can be overwhelming pain.

Souls also create karma.

Some chose never to return because of the violent behavior.

From the souls perspective, earth is a gamble.

There is opportunity to experience and express God even in hardships, but most people do not think of their soul.

When death is seen as an end to life, there is no comprehension of eternity.

They do not realize life as a human is the illusion and the spiritual realm is reality.

Think of a person taking a class with field trips often.

It is a challenging class and lots of new information.

The class can be exciting or a struggle.

It is never meant to go beyond the semester.

Death is like finishing a course

Some learned and some fail but they can always take the subject over again with a different teacher.

*Death is just completing a class and then you have a graduation party and all your loved ones, friends and relatives show up for the party.

Who’s afraid to go to a celebration, especially if it is for congratulations.

When one is aware of the connection with their spirit, death means more than the end to human life.

*Death is not to be feared, but seen as a bird freed from a cage.

It can now fly with freedom.

Isn’t this what the bird truly wanted to do?

Thank you so much, Wisdom, with joy.

            You are welcome little “mirror”.

A mirror reflects back an image.

Man looks at a mirror and sees a reflection of himself.

The image in the mirror is not the person’ true reality for that is the person looking into the mirror.

The mirror image is just a reflection.

Honor the man, not the mirror’s image.

Most fall in love with the mirrors image and forget it is the soul that has true life.

*Become in touch with the soul instead of falling in love with the mirror.
